Yoga Class Descriptions

Ongoing 90 minute practices exploring the 8 limbs of yoga with physical therapist and yoga therapist  Cheryl Van Demark, E-RYT 500.

Beginning Yoga :  An emphasis on basic alignment points, breath awareness and an introduction to yoga philosophy, symbolism and the eightfold path of Yoga.

Mixed Level Yoga:
  Begin with a jewel of philosophy, learn to tune inward, find breath and move through postures on the flow of breath. Develop tools to sense your body’s energy flow, expand your life force and cultivate power. Instruction in the asana (postures) is presented with options for practice along a continuum of challenge.  End with a deep relaxation in preparation for learning to meditate.
NOTE: Beginners are welcome. Participants should have at least a moderate fitness level, be able to bear weight through the wrists and hands and be able to easily move onto and off of the floor.

Body-wise Senior Yoga:
  Enjoy a gentle but effective practice adapted for chronic health challenges, motion limitations and joint replacement surgery and back pain. This is a chair assisted class – not a seated yoga class. Classes are kept small to provide a high level of personal attention. Transitions to the floor are optional.  Props are frequently incorporated to assist the practice.

Yin Yoga : Yin yoga practices ask for long held postures on the floor ( 3-5 minutes) to access a deep stretch to the joints and connective tissues with a focus on the hips and the spine. A steady and gentle  flow of breath into tight body areas is encouraged, along with an intention for open reflection to recognize long standing  patterns of mind-body tension.

Ashtanga Primary Series: A traditional fixed series of yoga postures punctuated with sun salutes to build internal heat and muscular power. Considered a primary preparation for physical skill building in asana practice.  A moderate level of cardiovascular fitness is required, as is the agility to move repeatedly up and down from the mat. 

Vinyasa Flow: ( Not currently on class schedule) Postures are sequenced to flow together with controlled transition from one posture into another on the current of the breath. This practice is warming, moderately cardiovascular and challenging to balance. For individuals with a moderate fitness level.  Familiarity with yoga postures is helpful.

Monthly Yoga Challenge Practices:

Offered by a variety of wonderful and talented guest teachers, this practice is intended to build your confidence in asana and delve more deeply into breath and meditation practices. This practice is for students with a moderate fitness level who practice yoga regularly and are interested in practicing the full scope of the yoga tradition.

The Matrix – every class is something different, a combination of HIIT ( high intensity interval training), body sculpting, and a little bit of everything you decide you need and enjoy!

Shake It Off! Cardio Fitness Shake It Off
Low-High Impact cardio class with variety of formats, including walking, step, dance and kickboxing to get the heart rate going.
It is not a choreographed routine, every week is a different combination. It is a great class for beginners. However, you can make the class as easy or as hard as you like

Mommy Got Fit! Women of all ages are welcome to MGF, and there is something for every experience level. You don’t have to be a mom, but if you are,  your children are welcome to come along. Learn how to workout without the need for a sitter. We facilitate an immersion into the practice of fitness and mental toughness for moms and their children.  Circuit training, nutrition education, and mind-body cooperation make exercise away of life. A fun and interactive class off peers allows you to shape your body while investing in your future.  Everyone has a good time and leaves feeling refreshed and ready to meet the day. 600-700 am  MWF. Your first session is free!
